I have told this story to many people already but the “traditional” word of mouth route will only spread it so far….and most people do not believe me. Now I have heard people having bad luck in the music industry. I have heard people stealing other people’s ideas in the music industry. I have even heard about some serious back stabbing but this story has to be at the top of all misfortunes. Imagine you created the song “Blame it on the Boogie” with your band, you perform it on Top Of The Pops and your name is Michael Jackson…BUT…you just so happen to not be the Micheal Jackson from the Jackson 5 that we all love (RIP). You happen to be a white guy from Germany.

This amazing documentary was on Channel 4 a few months ago and it tells the story of the other Michael (Mick) Jackson. I don’t want to spoil the story for you as you can watch it here but do you think this was….unfortunate?

  1. Mick (Michael) Jackson needed to write a song with his band….he wrote “Blame it on the Boogie”.
  2. His manager sold it to Joe Jackson, behind the band’s back.
  3. The Jacksons added the disco sound and created what we know and love, “Blame it on the Boogie.”
  4. The tracks were released on the same week and they ended up performing on the same episode of Top of The Pops together.
  5. You would think even though his career didn’t take off, he would at least be a millionaire for written the track right? Wrong.

You cannot help feel sorry for the guy BUT it does have a happy ending. One of the most interesting docs I have seen. Watch it on 4on demand here.
